Getting a Workout In A Hotel (not that kind of workout)

Last night in Moab, Utah, I got the best workout–and the simplest–that I have had all week. I was not in a gym. In fact I was in my hotel room after visiting the hotel’s fitness room and walking right back out.

It wasn’t that it was poorly equipped, although there wasn’t much going on besides a treadmill, a pec deck, a Swiss ball, and some light dumbbells.

It was that it was full of children, all speaking French and sitting on around whatever equipment there was.

Nothing wrong with French children either…that I know of, but there was no space and I prefer to train alone.

So I went back to my room and did pushups. Normal pushups, pushups with my feet elevated on the bed, partial handstand pushups, and a bunch of one arm negatives.

It was brief, it was useful to me, it was performed in lovely, if humid, solitude, and today I’m stronger for it.

A fine start to a vacation.

Nothing like the basics. One of my favorite workouts ever happened when they closed the gym in college, and we did a whole workout with a chair, a huge laundry bag, and a bunch of books. Have a good vacation.
