Gironda Dips Technique

Gironda dips are named after professional bodybuilder Vince Gironda. Back in the 1950s he was what today we might call a fitness trainer for celebrities. If Oprah had been around back then Gironda almost certainly would have appeared on her show to talk about the “secrets” of fitness success.

According to my old gal Wikipedia, apparently Clint Eastwood has spent some time training at Vince’s Gym. If I’m half as tough as Clint seems to be today when I’m half his age, I’ll be happy. Maybe it’s the Gironda dip.

As you can see, the technique is quite different than what we could call a textbook dip. These are deep deep deep and the rest of the body is held relatively motionless as the chest muscles perform the majority of the works. I tried to get into position to try these a couple of days ago and my shoulders said no no no.

So I can’t vouch for them personally. Anyone have any experience with these?

Looks painful, and pretty hard on the elbows. Think I’ll have to give this one a pass.

I admire truly what Vince Gironda said on training, and many advices fromme were illumnating for me. But I don’t like his dips dips. His dips are very uncomfortable and quite impractical for me, and are one exercise where I don’t follow him…. Now, if you see his fantastic pectorals, I am probably wrong!
