Fingal Fingers Training – Derek Poundstone

Some of the events in the World’s Strongest Man competitions are so unusual that it’s hard to get an idea of what they might feel like. I’m not saying I know what it’s like to have to push press a barbell loaded with a gun safe on each side, but I do know what it feels like to press near my limit.

The Fingal Fingers are one of those events that I wish I could try a scaled-down version of. Here’s a video of Derek Poundstone’s Fingal Fingers training.

Anyone have a set of these, or ideas about how you could rig up a DIY version?

Josh,

Rigging an ersatz Fingal Fingers wouldn’t be that hard. (I think)

1) Cut down a few trees.
2) Limb them so they’re logs (or just get logs)
3) Set one, the fulcrum log, in a spot where there’s room on both sides for the “fingers”.
4) Get wooden stakes and hammer them in to keep the fulcrum log in place.
5) Set finger(s) perpendicular to fulcrum log.
6) Lift and walk under fingers until they tip over (rinse and repeat)

…now, if you wanted get scientific, you could create a hinge, a mount, and then use chain to load the fingers, you could do so, but that wouldn’t be very caveman (or cheap).

Thoughts, part two.

1) get a log
2) bore a hole a few inches wide through one end, six to eight inches from the end.
3) run a chain through the hole and affix said chain to a heavy implement (preferably a boulder or an engine block from an old diesel locomotive) buried or placed upon the ground

…and that would act as your anchor
