How To Zercher Squat

by Kilo on December 6, 2010

I am always looking for variations of the large movement patterns to test out. I’ve been doing a lot of squatting, but there are days when the back squat, front squat, hip belt squat, and just about everything else feels like garbage. It’s not a lack of motivation, but an unwillingness to squat when every single movement reduces my range of motion.

But I love the Zercher squat. I feel like it was made for me. I do mine with an axle, which distributes the load across my elbows less painfully. If you do heavy zerchers with a one inch Olympic barbell in the crook of your arm, the pressure can be pretty nasty.

This tutorial above is a great introduction to the movement by Boris Bachmann from Squat RX. Enjoy!
