Muscle Milk Review

by Kilo on December 27, 2010

muscle milkThe quick review is that I like it. Muscle Milk (made by the futury-sounding Cytosport!)  tastes good in shake form, and only slightly less good in the cartons. Actually, that’s my long review as well.

What I don’t like is that it is expensive and I would rather get my protein from food.

The problem there is that I am an eater of convenience. I am always trying to put on more muscle because it helps me get stronger. Our bodies are largely made of protein, so I try to eat a lot of it. That means drinking it in my case, most of the time.

But I’m not obsessive. I’m also not a bodybuilding champion, and there may be a correlation there. I don’t worry about grams of protein per pound of bodyweight. I’m not that disciplined or concerned about it all, and there are so many differing opinions about how much protein we really need that as a passionate amateur I can barely even stay interested.

When I was buying it occasionally in carton form, I think there were 32 grams of protein in one carton of Muscle Milk. The cartons had 17 ounces. I bought them at a gas station for $3.79 each. I’m sure that they’re a bit cheaper bought in bulk, but I suspect the difference wouldn’t be enormous.

I have a brother-in-law who would sit around and sip the shakes all day if he could afford it. For my part, I will say that Muscle Milk Shakes taste really, really good as far as protein supplements go, but that’s as far as I’m willing to go. They will not make you the most muscular man in the world, if for some reason that is your goal.

If it wasn’t a hassle to cook a steak and chew it every time I wanted to eat protein, then I would do that.

I’ve tried a lot of different protein thingies. They all promise the world and they all seem to work the same as long as I’m lifting heavy and getting strong. Hmm….
