World Record Deadlift – Benedikt Magnusson

by Kilo on January 4, 2011

I was pretty proud of myself when I finally stuck a 540 pound pull. This world record deadlift by Benedikt Magnusson is…well, deadlifting 1100 pounds doesn’t really compute with me. I can’t really understand what I’m seeing. Not in any meaningful way that helps me understand what that pull must feel like.

It’s not 100, 200, 300, 400, or even 500 pounds away from max. It is even more. Holy cow. Of course, maybe those tired are super light and this is just a huge joke and he is just really good at making his face turn purple.

Can anyone tell is if he’s wearing a deadlift suit?

I can’t tell if he is wearing a suit, but I can tell that those are BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires that he is pulling, and really large ones at that. Wow.

I can’t conceive of the sheer strain that weight must put on your body. You know something’s heavy when half the rep is bar-bend! I’ve heard that even big Zadrunas Savickas can’t quite keep up with this guy in the DL, though there’s a video of Big Z hoisting upward of 1,000 on that same lift.

Benni isn’t wearing a suit here chaps :) Benni only now competes in raw competitions :)

Awesome, but what does this guy weigh? Is this 3 -4 times body weight?

Kilo February 8, 2011 at 2:59 pm

Gee, after looking at a few articles I see him listed between 375 and 385. So approximately triple body weight. I’m honestly surprised that he’s that heavy, but I guess I don’t assume that anyone weighs 370 no matter how big they look.

his pull is starting higher than a normal barbell… so this is maybe a 900-1000 lb regular deadlift. still a lot more than you, but slightly less more than you thought!

It’s a small consolation:)
