The Turkish get up is an exercise that I learned in the RKC that I never really fell in love with. But I can’t deny the Turkish get up benefits under the right conditions while trying to meet certain goals (such as doing a heavy Turkish get up!).
This gent up here is doing a get up with an incredible 160 pounds at a bodyweight of 166! I currently weigh 255 and have yet to do a get up with anything heavier than 110.
Note, he’s also using two kettlebells, which looks incredibly awkward.
If you’ve never tried this exercise, I recommend testing it out. If you love it you can use it to get very, very strong.
And just for fun, here’s an old photo of then-bald Adam T. Glass doing a getup with a bell and a chain.

Wow. Just…wow. I had never before conceived that a body-weight plus get-up could be accomplished. For me, that would require a circus dumbbell, and if I could do it, I would be king.
No doubt. We’re going to the welder to get you a circus dumbbell. Now, we just have to pick out a kingdom for you.
I’m just coming to grips with TGUs with a 50lb sandbag. Tell the welder that there is no hurry, and all nearby kingdoms are safe from me at this point.
