Zydrunas Savickas Pressing 205 kg on The Ironmind Apollon’s Axle

by Kilo on February 16, 2011

You can’t get a great look at how thick this bar is in the video, but it has a 2″ diameter. It weights 33 pounds and is 7 feet long. I’ve always been curious as to why they designed this bar to be even lighter than a normal Olympic barbell, but it doesn’t matter: Zydrunas Savickas is still cleaning and pressing 205 kg on the video up there.

I’ve found cleans with my own thick bar–a 2″, 75 lb beast from Submit Strength Equipment–to be a fun challenge.  Everything changes when the bar is thick and doesn’t revolve.

That looked far, far too easy. I think he could have gotten a three rep with that weight.

I enjoy doing clean and presses with my thickbar, but I am a very very long way from doing 205kg!

Also, with the way he does his clean I would struggle to do that seen as I have no belly as it has melted away through lots of exercise and not overeating.
